New High Tunnel Adventure!
I’m so excited to share some big news with you! I’ve added a new tool to my flower farming journey—a high tunnel! Well, it’s not technically a high tunnel, but that’s what I’m lovingly calling it. It’s a 26x10x7ft greenhouse I purchased from Amazon. Big, green, and full of potential, it feels like I’m stepping back into my very first year of growing Ranunculus.
Growing in a tunnel is a whole new challenge—balancing warmth during chilly nights and keeping things cool when the sun heats up the space. For the past few weeks, while the tunnel is still empty, I’ve been practicing temperature control to ensure everything is just right when it’s time to plant. It’s a learning process, much like my early days of flower farming.
Let’s take a step back. For the past few years, I’ve been growing my Ranunculus in two raised beds. My husband came up with a brilliant idea to use cattle panels to create a small hoop house covered in greenhouse plastic. It worked well.
Last year, I also repurposed old tracks from our skid steer to grow Tulips, Ranunculus, and Anemones. While it was creative and functional, the oval shape limited how many I could plant.
Ranunculus are delicate flowers that require extra care during the winter. They need protection from rain to prevent the corms from rotting and an added layer of frost cloth on freezing nights.
To scale up and meet my goal of growing nearly 1,000 Ranunculus for 2025, I knew I needed something bigger—and hopefully easier!
This greenhouse is a game-changer. It will allow me to nurture more flowers while protecting them from the elements. It’s all part of my dream to bring even more joy and beauty into your homes with my flowers.
Thank you for following along on this journey with me. Your support means everything. I’ll be sharing updates and behind-the-scenes moments as I navigate this new chapter, so stay tuned for more!
